For as long as I can remember my passion has always been animals. I have spent most of my life training animals in one way or another. During my childhood I was involved in the equine industry, training, riding, teaching and working with horses. This broadened my knowledge of behaviour and body language as a means of communication, not only with horses, but with all animals (including humans) that I would work with in the future. This eventually led me to a career as a dog trainer.
I furthered my education in university, obtaining a B.Sc. in zoology. Travelling locally and abroad in order to work with a variety of animals, I continually expanded my knowledge of not only behaviour and communication in animals but in people as well. Following my years of study at university, I became an ESL teacher to learn the tools to educate people.
After having a good basis in teaching, I continued my education yet again and became a certified dog trainer through Animal Behavior College. I founded Uxbridge Canine Academy (formerly D-Lux Canine Training Academy) and have been teaching my clients how to build a lasting bond with their canine companions ever since.
In order to be the best trainer than I can be, I am continually enhancing my knowledge of training tools and canine communication by taking courses and seminars, staying up to date on current issues and having an invaluable database of references to assist in training. Using a kind approach to dog training through the philosophy of positive reinforcement and building a bond with your dog, I provide my clients with practical tools they can use in their everyday lives.
Liasing with professionals such as trainers and veterinarians lead me in the direction of dog training which has been my continued passion ever since. I have been a Regional Director and Board member of the Agility Association of Canada from 2022-2024, and have also become an agility judge with the Agility Association of Canada.
I am also a member of a variety of other organizations such as CAPPDT, CARO and UKI to name a few and compete annually in rally obedience and agility with my, now retired, Border Collie Aspen. We have had a successful career considering he was my first ever agility dog. We were the 2019 and 2021 Regional Champions as well as podium placers at the 2019 AAC Nationals. We have also been members of the Canadian Agility Team in 2020. I now have a young puppy training to be my next agility champion. Her name is Nuff Said.

I have been an animal lover since I was a baby - literally my first word was "puppy". I have always been drawn to animals and found comfort with them since a young age. I worked with horses for over a decade, teaching horseback riding to kids and riding competitively in Show Jumping. I even taught a cat to go over jumps (my 8 year old version of agility). I eventually got into dogs and dog training in 2017.
Soon after that I met my best friend, an 80lb Labrador mix, Maverick. I have to give a shout-out to Maverick, as he's the reason I am the trainer I am today. Since adopting Maverick, we've done Agility, Dock Diving, Disc, Freestlye, Flyball, Obedience and Trick Training. Maverick and I are even on the Superdog team and perform all across Ontario.
I am not just a professional dog trainer, I'm a dog nerd first. I continuously seek learning opportunities to expand my knowledge. I have attended multiple seminars and taken online courses ranging from Fenzi Dog Sports Academy to Aggression in Dogs Master Course. All things dog behaviour fascinates me.
I am a graduate of the Karen Pryor Academy (KPA-CTP), a certified Professional Dog Trainer through the Certification Council of Professional Dog Trainers (CPDT-KA) and Family Dog Mediator through the L.E.G.S. Applied Ethology Family Dog Mediation Professional Course (FDM).
Throughout my years of training dogs, I have been committed to reward-based training. I train dogs by teaching them what to do rather than setting them up for failure, making each dog feel like a "winner" and enjoying the training process. I don't just focus on fancy tricks, but instead foster a strong relationship with our canine companions built on mutual respect and trust. I want the dogs to work WITH me, not FOR me. I treat each dog as if they were my own. Being a dog trainer is my passion before anything else.
